Did you know a lack of board, officer, and campus administrator training can result in a material violation of your charter? Many charter systems struggle to aquire the appropriate amount of training for board members, officers, and campus administrators. The Texas Charter Schools Association (TCSA) offers member schools various webinar trainings either free or at a discounted rate to help charter leaders meet Texas Education Agency training requirements. Member schools also receive deep discounts on training bundles within the TCSA Learning Zone. If you are a new or existing charter on a tight budget, TCSA can manage your school's compliance training efficiently and affordably. The Texas Charter Schools Association (TCSA) is implementing a new model of training called the Learning Walk. This informal training opportunity allows charter leaders to get a glimpse into the classrooms of another charter system and ask questions of leaders regarding the initiatives executed at the campus level.
East Grand Preparatory, part of the Cityscape Schools System, hosted the first learning walk on January 24 in east Dallas. The campus employs a rigorous college readiness model which helps students prepare for the demands of a competitive world. The school was selected to model how leaders work with teachers as part of the professional learning communities each week. Campus administrators demonstrated how conversations with teachers are focused on student growth based on short cycle assessments and evidence found in student work. Teachers shared specific examples of student conversations and products to justify their viewpoints on how students were progressing within specific content areas.
We would like to thank Dr. Marco Hinojosa for leading the training and congratulate East Grand Preparatory on the academic growth over the past two years. Cityscape earned marks of distinction in science, student progress, postsecondary readiness, and in the area of closing performance gaps on the state accountability system.
If you are interested in attending one of the TCSA hosted Learning Walks, please register in the Learning Zone.
Searching for training options for your board members, officers, campus administrators, teachers and finance managers? The Texas Charter Schools Association (TCSA) created a new repository to store content specifically designed for Texas charter schools. The Learning Zone is a marketplace to help you meet all of the §19 TAC 100 training requirements established by the Texas Education Agency. If you prefer in-person events, trainings are available for board of directors and officers on March 3, April 1, and April 28, 2016. A Finance Bootcamp has been scheduled for April 13-15 in Austin to assist business managers and new leaders in creating policies and procedures to account for all expenditures. A Teacher Summit will also be offered this summer in three locations to help build instructional effectiveness, so stay tuned for dates and training locations.
Prefer to watch taped training events or webinars? Your charter school team can elect to watch these events on-demand, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. There are currently 24 courses available as on-demand courses. This training option allows charter school leaders to start and stop, or review content as needed in the midst of competing demands.
Do you have questions on specific topics? A webinar series will be available where charter school leaders ask questions and receive answers to help guide your work. The webinars will generally be held the third Thursday of each month from 12 noon to 1 p.m. If you cannot participate in a webinar due to scheduling conflicts, the content will be placed into an on-demand course available at a later time.
Ready to get started? Visit the Learning Zone today. Scroll below the header picture and click on your role group to find the catalog listings most appropriate to your position within your charter school system. You will need to set up an account to register for a course. This login will be used to track your course and training completion and allow you to print certificates once an event is completed.
Don’t see a topic you need to learn more about? Please email Dr. Paula Moeller at firstname.lastname@example.org with your ideas.
Need additional hours to satisfy new or returning board or officer training requirements? Join us for this training event to receive six hours of Texas Administrative Code (TAC), Chapter 100 training credit. Attendees will receive the latest information on special education law, school finance updates as a result of HB 2610, the charter school performance framework, and the new federal law, the Every Student Succeeds Act.
Two dates and locations have been finalized for the training event: Friday, March 3 in San Antonio and Friday, April 1 in Houston. We also plan to offer this training in Dallas in April.
