Texas Virtual Schools Network Grant to Rural Schools

A webinar to assist schools interested in applying for the Texas Virtual Schools Network (TXVSN) Grant to Rural Schools will be offered free to all Texas Charter Schools Association (TCSA) members schools on Wednesday, April 5 from 10-11 a.m. School personnel will need to register for the webinar prior to workshop at the TCSA Learning Zone.

The grant is a great opportunity for rural charter schools that are experiencing a staffing shortage and are unable to assign a teacher to a course or courses needed for students to meet graduation requirements, or schools that are experiencing scheduling difficulties and are unable to meet the individual needs of students by scheduling them into a course or courses needed to meet graduation requirements. In addition, the grant is a great opportunity for rural schools that wish to do one or more of the following:

  • expand course offerings and endorsement options;
  • provide additional Advanced Placement® (AP®) and dual credit options;
  • provide additional accelerated instruction options; and/or
  • provide additional credit recovery options.

Grant funds can be used to pay enrollment costs for students who are able to access the internet at home, school, or both and are selected to complete courses available through the TXVSN Course Catalog . Funds can also be used to provide supplemental pay for selected teachers or counselors who will provide additional student support beyond their current assignments and serve as mentors for students participating in TXVSN courses. In addition, funds can be used to pay costs (or a portion of costs) for technology needed (e.g., laptop, hot spot, internet access card) by students for participation in TXVSN.

The webinar will cover the following:

  • eligibility for the grant
  • purposes of the grant
  • use of grant funds
  • completing the TXVSN task activity plan
  • completing the grant budget template

This is a great opportunity for rural charters to access much-needed funds to enhance your high school program. The deadline for submission to the Texas Education Agency (TEA) is April 24, so this webinar should be timely in helping your prepare your submission. Please plan to register and join us for the webinar on Wednesday, April 5, at 10 a.m.!
